I've seen a lot of eye tuts on dA...at least, what seems like tutorials, but a lot of them are simply either step-by-step or just a bunch of different styles of eyes in different angles. None of them really explain how the eyes look the way it does, why the eyelids casts that shadow on the eyeballs, etc. At least, none that I've seen
I hope this gives you guys a more in-depth look to the human eye and the structure surrounding it. This actually took quite a long time, so i hope you guys like it . Rendering the eyes took a LOT longer than simply sketching them D;.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask .
here's the step-by-step put into gif so it's easier to see:
here are the skull studies I did back a few years ago:

I put some anime eyes in the references too, hope you guys don't mind, hahaha.
ps. i put it in traditional art catagory because it's the only one with the subsection "anatomy" in it. I'm not sure why digital art can't teach anatomy either, but you'll have to ask dA about that. xD;;.
My problem with eyes is always with the 3/4 face with the 'squished eye' It never looks right. Do you have any suggestions or helpful hints dealing with that eye?
I think the easiest way, actually, is probably to reference some photos or artworks that you like for practice. as you copy it, you'll get the feel of how the artist deals with that eye. i think for every person, it's different, and....well, honestly I've never really had trouble with that eye so I can't really think of a specific way of making it easier to draw @__@;; I'm really sorry >_<;; this is the only thing I can suggest >_<;;. the more you practice, the better you'll get at that eye, that's for sure though .
No worries <3 I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I don't know why that particular eye gives me so much grief. May I have your permission to reference some of your art? Chances are I won't be loading anything onto DA and if I do I'd give credit. I've set aside 3 hours this evening to work on drawing eyes. At home I actually have tabs pulled up for tonight, the tutorial you put together as well as some of Ryky,s eyes, mirukawa, and one other. To be honest I'm tired of drawing the stereotypical anime and really want to work on moving past that. At least that's my 2013 goal.
Go ahead xD. I'd also suggest try to reference photographs, if you're trying to move away from anime. It'll take you to a more semi-realistic place, I think, if that's were you want to go.
Thank you! I appreciate it <3 I haven't done many searches for faces and expressions I should probably try to fine some. There is a girl on DA who has dark hair that had some really good face / expression stocks but I can't remember who she was I think her name started with a K x.x But Jennifer Healy had provided me two great resources one for color schemes and the other is for gesture practice I've had fun with both of them .
